Shims

Non Metal Solid Shims

Attewell’s technicians use state of the art technology to produce precision plastic shims designed to meet your needs.
What are shims used for?
Shims can be made from metallic substances such as beryllium copper, titanium, stainless steel or aluminium, or non-metallic substances such as PTFE, composite, polyimide or plastic. A shim can help to improve the fit between two parts, provide support, create a level surface, or act as a spacer between to components for tolerance accumulation or wear compensation. Available in a range of thicknesses, tailored to meet individual needs, the use of a shim allows you to achieve precision fit and levelling across a range of purposes – from levelling a table, to ensuring precision in aerospace engineering.

Plastic shims
In some instances, precision plastic shim sheets are a convenient alternative to metal shims because they have good wear and corrosive resistance, are moisture resistant, possess low co-efficient of friction, offer physical, chemical and electrical insulation, and are relatively low-cost to produce. However, although it is possible to produce precision plastic shims, it is not usually possible to gain the same level of precision that can be achieved using metallic or other non-metallic materials.

Uses for plastic shims
Plastic shims are low cost and versatile and, as such, shim plastic is a popular choice across a range of industries including construction and plumbing, for  purposes such as shimming, spacing and insulation.

Tailored to your needs
At Attewell, we offer a full range of plastic shims to suit a range of needs. For clients looking for the low-weight, insulation, versatility and low-cost benefits of non-metallic shims, plastic shims may be the right option.
