Attewell’s CNC (Computerised Numerical Control) waterjet technologies are an essential part of the manufacturing processes in the production of C-class airframe components.
The use of waterjet machines for cutting has many advantages in that it enables high levels of precision without affecting the structure of the material being cut, as there is no heat involved in the process and consequently no Heat Affected Zone. The structural integrity of all the component parts in the manufacture of airframes is a primary consideration, and so using pure waterjet for softer materials or abrasive waterjet for harder materials such as stainless steel is a valuable aspect of our manufacturing repertoire. Combining CNC processes with our waterjets means that we are able to achieve high levels of precision and repeatability for the most complex of parts, for example, honeycomb sheet metal details, as a result of our waterjet programming ability. At Attewell, we make it our business to invest in the most up-to-date, technologically advanced equipment to enable us to produce the components you need to your precise specifications. Our CNC waterjets can cut a wide range of materials including plastics, polyimides, aluminium, titanium, copper, brass and stainless steel, meaning that we can accommodate production in whatever material is most appropriate for the use of the component that you need.
Attewell’s global position
Attewell is a British company with a global reach. We initially moved from the manufacture of mirrors to making parts for Spitfire aircraft as part of the war effort back in 1942. Over the more than seven decades since then, we have grown and developed, until we are now the largest manufacturer of C-class aircraft components in Europe, with all the worldwide leading aerospace manufacturers as our customers. We achieved this by having an approach to constant improvement and to customer service that is unrivalled in the industry. Our investment in our extensive range of cutting edge equipment such as our CNC waterjets is one part of why we hope to realise our ambition to be the global preferred partner for low-cost, high-specification components in the aircraft construction arena.
